Wine Pairing with Go Cheese and Chef Ranveer Brar

Pairing the appropriate Cheese with Wine is subjective and therein lies its diversity. When you get a Celebrity chef like Ranveer Brar to talk about his favourite Wine and Cheese pairing, it is time for Bangalore to sit up and listen. I was invited to the Wine and Cheese Pairing organized at one of Bangalore’s favourite hangouts-The Biere Club in association with Femina and Go Cheese India. The who’s who of the Social Influencer’s were in attendance to witness this exclusive do conducted by none other than Chef Ranveer Brar who has under his kitty a variety of shows including the Great Indian Rasoi.

The Event started with a light-hearted dose of Stand-up Comedy by Sahil Shah which bordered on Slapstick humour. The crowd was thoroughly entertained and the mood was set for an indulgent evening.

On Behalf of Gowardhan Dairy products, Mahesh Israni took the stage to educate the audience about the various varieties of products available under the umbrella. It came to know for the first time about the Pride of Cow range presently available only in Maharashtra providing direct-to-home products to its customers untouched by human hand.

It was time for Chef Ranveer Brar to make an appearance with a huge applause from the audience. Being the charmer of an individual, Ranveer was able to touch base with various options to pair Cheese and Wine with as well as clarified some of the myths prevalent in the Wine industry. We were served a platter comprising of the best of Orange Cheddar, Gouda and Colby with a generous assortment of Grapes, Figs and Blueberry Compote with Crackers on the side. The wine served alongside was K2 from Krsma wines and I decided to pair the Red with my platter. I was able to find my bliss with the Gouda and felt that the Colby did not do must justice to the myriad notes of the accompanying Wine. Orange Cheddar is a popular choice and is quite easy-going when it comes to any variety of Wine-Red or White.

The Hor’s D’oeuvres followed with an assortment of Beetroot Carpaccio stuffed with Herb Almette and mini greens, Cheesy Pepper Agrodolce Calzone, Crumb-Fried Cheese with Grape Chutney, Cheddar and Monterey Jack Cheese flour Nachos with Avocado Salsa and Sliced Cheese with Tomato and Olive Bruschetta with Biere Mustard. Among the five, it was the Beetroot Carpaccio with Herb Almette that stole the show with its plethora of flavours –subtle yet very distinguished which went perfectly well with my Red. I am a huge fan of Almette from Go Cheese and have had extremely poor luck in finding it across supermarkets in Bangalore.

Who can forget Desserts, and that too made with Cheese? We were served a unique combination of Saffron Crème Syllabub with fresh fruits and Biscotti Crumbles and Almette cheese-topped Humming Bird Cake with edible flowers. I was blown away by the latter and poured myself another glass of Red to savour the occasion.

Everyone was busy taking pictures with Ranveer and it was time for the goody bag to make an appearance. Go Cheese made sure that we all were pampered with one that comprised of their signature products including the Almette Cheese (Thank god for that!) along with a travel size carton of their Milk, Butter Milk and Badam Milk. In there was also a box of Cheese Angles, one for each day of the week and a bag of Slices for a wholesome sandwich. It was an eventful evening, one that was educational and entertaining in the company of fellow social influencers and culinary enthusiasts and invited friends. A big shout out to Go Cheese and Femina for pulling off such a wonderful event with grace and elegance. And last but definitely not the least, Ranveer’s million dollar smile is one that needs to be witnessed first-hand.
